Top 7 Free Tools for Social Media Marketing

Your social media accounts are one of the most powerful tools you have in your business to reach new people, build trust with your present network, and grow your presence and authority.

Globally, there are over 4.95 billion social media users. And on average, users spend around 2 hours and 27 minutes on social media daily. This is a huge pool of people who are just waiting in one place. You know where they are and how to reach them, you just have to actually use social media to your advantage.

But, well, social media is often hard to manage (especially for a whole business [and especially when you have more than one platform to keep running]) so many people skimp out on it. Don’t let this be you!

Instead of despairing about how hard it is (and it is pretty difficult) and how much time & energy it will take from your actual business, be smart instead and work in a way that’s as easy as possible for you and takes less of your time and energy.

To help with that a little, I have compiled a list of my seven favorite tools (that are also free!) to help you with your social media marketing.

For graphic design - Canva

Canva is, hands-down, my favorite graphic editor. It is more than enough for most things you might need as a business and is very easy and intuitive to use. I use it for everything - from Instagram posts and Youtube thumbnails to presentations, documents, flyers, brochures,Tiktok posts and even quick video edits.

It offers a great collection of photos, graphics, and videos for you to use in your designs (though it might sometimes be a pain to sort out the paid ones if you’re on the free version) and has a huge amount of fonts for you to use.

Canva is great for making posts and graphics

For royalty free images - Unsplash & Pixabay

Both Unsplash and Pixabay are my top websites for free images and videos. It’s a huge hassle to find images that look good and you won’t potentially get sued over for using in a business context, but these two websites have a great collection that you can use.

They have a very sizable collection of photos and a good amount of videos and graphics as well. The search engines and filtering systems make finding the picture you want very easy and the collections on Unsplash, especially, are very helpful for when you’re a bit stuck and want some inspiration.

For post scheduling & analytics: Buffer

Buffer is a great platform for scheduling and managing posts for your social media channels. It’s pretty versatile and great for organizing all your different channels and posts. It can:

NOTE: It can even schedule videos on Tiktok! Which is absolutely great, considering that you can’t schedule videos on the mobile app.

Unlike Hootsuite, which performs almost all the same functions as Buffer, Buffer also has a completely free plan if you are just starting out although it does limit you to 10 scheduled posts per channel and basic analytics.

Overall, it is a good platform that can make quite a bit of work easier for you and stop you from having to traipse through half a dozen different channels every time you have a post to publish.

For video editing: Capcut

I hated the idea of editing videos on my phone and avoided Capcut for as long as possible, but now ever since I tried Capcut for a few videos, I’ve been completely sold on it. It’s designed for editing short-form social media videos, and you can definitely see that.

Capcut is a good video editing program

Although it’s not for a long-form Youtube video or professional-grade edits, Capcut is extremely easy to use, versatile and is just overall good at what it does. It is quite literally easier to use and more effective than most computer editing programs I’ve used.

There are many functions included: basic clip editing, sound functions, stickers, text, transitions, effects, as well as a big library of music and sound effects that have virtually any other free video editing software I’ve seen beat.

There is also a computer version of Caput for those interested, but only works on Mac and Windows.
