I used to find the idea of posting on social media for my business extremely off-putting. I didn’t think there was that much I could say on there that would be helpful to my business and besides, I really didn’t want to have to show up there every other day. It felt a little like being put on a stage in front of a crowd of strangers and asked to give a speech in a different language …yeah, no thanks.
However, I kept seeing everywhere that you have to be good at social media to succeed in your business and people were telling me to just go and do it. Besides, I am a web designer and knew full well that this was a very important tool, and I couldn’t just miss out on it. So, I finally gathered my guts and went to do it. Now, I am steadily building my social media channels. Here are the three things that helped me with it:
Be Prepared - Write out your post and videos in advance and don’t panic about what on Earth you can talk about on the day that you’re actually supposed to be publishing something. Even better, you can make them a few days in advance and just schedule them to automatically be published on the right day.
No One Cares - No one cares that much about you and if your first few videos and posts are terrible to start off with, then, well, no one will really care or remember in the long run of things.
Quantity over Quality - You can’t make your first good video without making a 100 bad ones first. And you can’t make your first great video without making a 100 good ones first. You don’t have to immediately be incredible at this! It’s perfectly normal if you need to learn first, and learning happens the easiest when you practice. Best to get the bad videos out of the way as fast as possible. Get started doing it now!
